Cruises from Vancouver are becoming widely popular, and are mostly bound for Alaska. Vancouver estimates receiving 930,000 cruise passengers in 2007, an 11 percent increase since 2006. Vancouver received top marks for user-friendliness and luggage handling and was named the most passenger-friendly cruise port in North America by Berlitz Travel Publishing.

With an increase in interest comes an increase in interest in the hotels of Vancouver, such as the Kor Hotel Group’s Loden Hotel. This 130-room boutique hotel offers a fitness center, spa, restaurant, and a 3,500 square foot meeting space and 16-seat boardroom. And their guestrooms offer a 42-inch flat-panel TV, DVD player, iPod docking stations, cordless speaker-phones and wireless Internet access. Other hotel hotspots include: the Opus Hotel, the Metropolitan Hotel, Sutton Place Hotel, Four Seasons, and the Pan Pacific Hotel. As rumor has it, you may see your favorite stars at these popular spots in Vancouver.

Not only are the hotels attracting buzz, but so are the restaurants. Such restaurants hitting the scene are the Salt Tasting Room (wwwsalttastingroom.com) in Blood Alley, which specializes in artisan cheese, small-batch cured meats and wines, and the new Fuel Restaurant. A great new experience for those interested in food is Edible BC. With Edible BC, they plan out a personalized culinary itinerary for you from an exclusive reservation, to something as elaborate as a complete multi-day holiday.

One of the most well known allures of Vancouver would be the skiing. You can book a day trip or extended stay at the Whistler/Blackcomb Ski Resort. You can go on the Whistler Mountaineer train which departs daily from May through October, and as a passenger you can enjoy a hot breakfast as the train takes you along the beautiful scenery. For more information visit www.whistlermountaineer.com. And if staying overnight at the Whistler, you can take part in the many activities such as the Ziptrek Eco Tours, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, golf, or relax at one of the many spas.
