Sting Rays, turtles, and sharks are only a arm length away during these magnificent dives along the Grand Turk Wall, which is the third largest barrier reef in the world. Guests rave over the quality of the dive and resort. From the very experience divers to the first timers this resort goes above and beyond expectations. The vast amount of fish life and coral displays are breathtaking and the dive sites are easily reached within ten minutes with quick, calm, intervals of boats. The outer cay, like Gibbs Cay, is a great place to snorkel through. You and the stingrays will swim together next to this beautiful uninhabited island.

The Bohio Dive Resort is set on Pillory Beach and boasts 16 rooms with ocean views and terraces facing west to enjoy the Caribbean sunset. Before you head out into the water there is plenty of opportunity for instruction. Bohio has its own dive center with experienced PADI instructors waiting to help all level divers. Also on the resort is Bohios Guanahani restaurant and bar which is open seven days a week and offers everything from Italian coffee, Cuban cigars, and cocktails to local and international cuisines.
The welcoming and intimate feel of the resort is one of its main attractions. You almost feel as though you are becoming part of the Bohio family. It does not take long to figure out that Bohio is an ancient Taino term for, Home.

Feb 4th

The Island of Providenciales, or ‘Provo’ as it is more popularly known, in the Turks & Caicos is where you will find the Ocean Club Resorts.  These resorts lie along the 12-mile Grace Bay beach, ranked the “best beach” in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, and top-ranked for scuba diving.  The resorts range form 400-square-foot studios to 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom suites.  Individually owned, the units are all decorated differently, but all with bright colors.  The resorts also offer free high-speed internet, a supervised children’s program, and a small fitness room and spa services.

Ocean Club Resorts

Many guests enjoy the convenience, and cost savings of cooking in their unit’s fully equipped kitchen, where they can prepare meals from the food they can pick up by cab at the large IGA grocery store.  But if you don’t feel like preparing food yourself, you can dine at the Ocean Club’s Gecko Grille, which is one of the best restaurants on the island.  Here you can dine by candle-light in the air-conditioned dining room or out in the garden.  You can also dine at the casual Cabana Bar & Grill by the beach pool, where you can simply take off your shoes when your done, and step right out into the sand and beach.

St Lucia

St. Kitts – Made one of the Caribbean’s rickets nations by their production of Sugar, and kept one of its richest from its tourism.  When here stay at Bird Rock Beach Hotel, which offers excellent diving and fishing.

St. Lucia – Offers long stretches of beach with your pick of white, golden or volcanic sand.  When here stay at the family-run guesthouse, La Haut Plantation, which features 13 hillside rooms.  Or at Ti Kaye Village Resort, who’s 33 ocean-view rooms and cottages (each with a veranda and hammock) are located 75 minutes from the airport, but are worth the wait.

St Lucia

St. Martin/St. Maarten – This is the smallest landmass in the world to be shared by two countries:  the Netherlands and France.  When here you can choose to stay on the French side of the border (St. Martin) at Les Balcons d’Oyster Pond, where you can rend out bungalows with marina views.  Or on the Dutch side (St. Maarten), at the Pasanggrahan Royal Guest House, with the name appropriately meaning “place of rest.”

Turks & Caicos – Of all the islands of Turks & Caicos, Providenciales (Provo) is the most developed island, yet it is never crowded.  When here stay at Sibonne Beach Hotel, where the beach is just steps away from every room.  Or the family-run Caribbean Paradise Inn, which is only two minutes from Grace Bay Beach.

U.S. Virgin Islands – A Caribbean island where no passport is required in order to travel there from the U.S.  When here stay at the historic Hotel 1829, which was built in 1829 by a French sea captain.  Or at Hotel on the Cay, which you can take a free two-minute water taxi (which runs 24 hours) to, and where you can relax on the hotels very own beach, giving the hotel’s 53 rooms their own ocean view.

No waiting at Regent Palms, exactly what you expect in a Vacation

Dec 6th

The 72-unit Regent Palms resort is found in the center of Grace Bay Beach on the island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos.  This property was open March 1st and offers one, two, and three bedroom luxury suites and six penthouse suites.  Every unit is no less than 1,500 square feet, and most suites have ocean views over Grace Bay Beach.  It is no wonder this luxury resort is becoming popular, especially with adult couples.

Regent Palms

All units have a travertine terrace of at least 225 square feet, and all the terraces have daybeds where you can relax and nap while the breezes and sounds of the beach rush over you.  Each unit features full-feature kitchens, and you can request a private chef, but at extra cost.  The resort is surprisingly clean with no floor stains.

When you’re on vacation, you should expect all the luxury and relaxation you hope for, because that’s what being on vacation’s all about.  There are six people behind the in-pool bar (while at most resorts there are maybe two), which results in no waiting for service.  There is no waiting either at their gourmet dining room, Parallel 23, where there are three bartenders, a 20-foot long bar, and no waiting.  Here you can get dinners that feature international cuisine with Caribbean flavors and textures.

Regent Palms

They also bring you relaxation with the Regent Palms’ Spa, where many of the massages are on Mediterranean Float Beds (which are similar to a water bed, but more stable.  This spa is the recipient of the 2006 World Travel Award for “Turks & Caicos Leading Spa Resort.”

Provo at Turks and Caicos

Categories: Caribbean, Turks and Caicos

Nov 26th

Lately, Providenciales (more commonly known as Provo) has become the most popular of the Turks and Caicos Islands.  With the U.S dollar as the official currency, its easy to spend money, but here are some ways to cut back the budget but still enjoy in the island itself.

Provo
If you are willing to look you can find places to stay for cheap on the island.  One of which is Turtle Cove Inn.  This 30-room inn is found on the waterfront at Turtle Cove Marina, a busy point for fishing, diving and snorkeling.  The “value rooms” go got $105 in the winter and $85 in the summer.  A 10-minute walk gets you to Smith’s reef, a prime snorkeling spot, and a bit farther is Grace Bay Beach, which offers a 12-mile stretch of white sand.

Turtle Cove Inn
When eating on Provo, you should try to love the conch (pronounced conk); a large mollusk and is served on just about every menu on the island.  When going to try the conch, the ideal spot is De Conch Shack, found just west of Grace Bay.  There, you can order them in conch chowder ($9), as conch fritters ($8) or as fried strips, or “cracked conk” ($12).  For a sit-down dinner, try the Tiki Hut Cabana Bar and Grill, which offers a menu of local specialties like Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich and conch, alongside burgers and pizzas (all well under $20), they even offer a conch pizza ($11).  And a last place to mention is Hemingway’s at the Sands Hotel, and open-air restaurant that overlooks Grace Bay Beach.  There you can eat seafood dishes such as spicy conch chowder ($7.75) and mahi mahi fish and chips ($9.95) while you listen to the saxophonist that plays poolside.

Conch
By day on Provo you will have an endless list of things to do, such as scuba diving and kayaking.  Or, to take part in the island’s love of the conch, visit the Caicos Conch Farm, where $6 gets you in.  You can also take a trip to Little Water Cay (also known as Iguana Island).  This is a 116-acre island that is home to thousands of indigenous rock iguanas.  Admission to the island is just $5, but you need a boat to get there, and most companies charge $50 or more for the five-minute ride and back, so it’s recommended you make a day of it.
