The 37 square foot island of St. Maarten/Saint Martin is home to versatile environments, beautiful beaches, and activities to keep you occupied. The northern part of the island, Saint Martin, belongs to France, and the southern half of the island, Sint Maarten, is Netherlands territory. This island has a European/Caribbean feel, but the main language is English.

There are over 30 beaches on the island. The activity beaches offer horseback riding, volleyball, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, surfing, jet skiing, body boarding, and sailing. Among the 30, there are also many quiet calm beaches and romantic coves. Orient Beach, on the French side, St. Martin, is one of the most popular beaches. It is ideal for snorkeling and many other water sports. Thought this beach is clothing optional, people tend to wear more clothes on the northern end of the beach near the hotels.

If you’re looking to stray from the beaches, gambling can be found on the Dutch side in many of the larger hotels, which offer everything from high stakes to penny slots. Casino Royal in on Maho Beach and the Atlantis Casino is in Cupecoy. The island is also home to 300 restaurants, ranging from BBQ to fine French cuisine. The Nightlife on this island is also something to take part in. at night you can see live entertainment from around the world, along with nightclubs, discos, and bars on both sides of the island.
Due to the island’s many attractions, there are many resorts to choose from as well. On the Dutch side, the Wyndham Sapphire Beach Club & Resort is good for families; the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Sonesta Great Bay are both close to the airport. Also on the Dutch side is Westin Resort at Oyster Bay. This four star rated resort is on a beautiful beach with a wonderful staff, they have activities for their guests such as scuba and horse back riding. On the French side, Hotel Beach Plaza features great nightlife, and the Grand Case Beach Club is just steps away from the village of Grand Case.

We had a great time from the time we set foot on this beautiful Caribbean Island on December 23, 2007 until our departure on December 30, 2007. Our compliment goes to Annette Michael of Tropical Travel for the excellent vacation package which she put together for us on a short notice.

The resort of Oyster Bay exceeded our expectation. The hospitability of resort staff and all accommodations were excellent. Tiger, the resort cat was the icing on the cake. We enjoyed him too!

Puerto Rico – A U.S territory since 1917, and is more laid back than popular San Juan. When here stay at the Normandie Hotel, located only 15 minutes (by car) away from Old San Juan, and was renovated in 2004. Also you can stay in Ponce’s historic zone at Hotel Melia, which has 73 rooms with balconies over the plaza.

St. Kitts – Made one of the Caribbean’s rickets nations by their production of Sugar, and kept one of its richest from its tourism. When here stay at Bird Rock Beach Hotel, which offers excellent diving and fishing.
St. Lucia – Offers long stretches of beach with your pick of white, golden or volcanic sand. When here stay at the family-run guesthouse, La Haut Plantation, which features 13 hillside rooms. Or at Ti Kaye Village Resort, who’s 33 ocean-view rooms and cottages (each with a veranda and hammock) are located 75 minutes from the airport, but are worth the wait.

St. Martin/St. Maarten – This is the smallest landmass in the world to be shared by two countries: the Netherlands and France. When here you can choose to stay on the French side of the border (St. Martin) at Les Balcons d’Oyster Pond, where you can rend out bungalows with marina views. Or on the Dutch side (St. Maarten), at the Pasanggrahan Royal Guest House, with the name appropriately meaning “place of rest.”
Turks & Caicos – Of all the islands of Turks & Caicos, Providenciales (Provo) is the most developed island, yet it is never crowded. When here stay at Sibonne Beach Hotel, where the beach is just steps away from every room. Or the family-run Caribbean Paradise Inn, which is only two minutes from Grace Bay Beach.
U.S. Virgin Islands – A Caribbean island where no passport is required in order to travel there from the U.S. When here stay at the historic Hotel 1829, which was built in 1829 by a French sea captain. Or at Hotel on the Cay, which you can take a free two-minute water taxi (which runs 24 hours) to, and where you can relax on the hotels very own beach, giving the hotel’s 53 rooms their own ocean view.
