Since the 1930s Acapulco has been known for its seaside tourism. It has been traditional and simple until now. Acapulco is redefining its vacation experience with the birth of a collection of new luxury high-rise hotels, restaurants, discos, nightclubs, and spas.

Mundo Imperial, a gigantic creation that rivals a city in size and excess is being built right now with a neighboring expo center, theater, concert hall, and a mall called, La Isla. The High Tec look of the new architecture will be matched by the feng shui and technology inside of the hotels. The first hotel open in November boasting 334 guestrooms, a holistic spa featuring Chinese medicine, iPod docs and voice-over Internet phone systems. Along side these hotels will be top of the line restaurants with choices like North African-Mediterranean cuisine or a seafood stop that allows the customer to choose his or her own meal from an aquarium.

With the new hotels being built old regulars of the ocean-side city are making multimillion-dollar renovations which will also add a new flair to the now high-end feel of Acapulco. Las Brisas, Camino Real, Quinta Real, Hyatt, and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts are beginning renovations to match the new wave of competition.
It is estimated that over 3,000 new hotel rooms will be up and running within a year. This number will go on top of an already impressive 18,000 in business right now. Acapulco is sure to get back its business that was lost in the last ten years to vacation hot spots like Los Cabos, Huatulco, and Cancun. Acapulco also adds the flair of tradition. The city sprung up in the 1500s as a trading port and still holds its old town charm and mystique. The museums and old architecture are reason enough to visit. The nightlife is also beginning to flourish with 3,000 person capacity clubs that give off that ever-enchanting Vegas feel. Within this next year Acapulco will be a redefined resort.

Acapulco , Mexico is a popular place to visit, and it’s no surprise. Acapulco offers sights both old and new to please the adventure-buff or one seeking relaxation and beauty. From buildings to beaches, and divers to bullfights, Acapulco has something to please anyone. The rainy season usually begins in June and goes through September, so these months are best, as there are fewer travelers and lower prices. The rain falls most at night, when the temperature drops into the 70’s from the 90’s that range in the afternoon.
When visiting Acapulco , you can start out by taking a trip to the City Center . The Cathedral, which was built in 1936, has a view of many beautiful domes and towers. This cathedral faces the town square (or Zocalo) where you will find many little handicraft and shell shops. Next you can gaze upon the Chapel of Peace. This chapel gives you the perfect view of Acapulco bay and is full of beautiful gardens.
When looking for the more adventurous side of Acapulco , you need not look far. Go to La Quebrada and watch the cliff divers perform. You can watch from either inside the Hotel El Mirador (where you can order drinks, though they run on the expensive side,) or from the outside steps which lead to the viewing area, where all you might want to spend is about twenty pesos to tip the divers and their assistants.
More adventure can be found within the bull fighting season. This usually runs from late December to April, and the fights take place every Sunday at exactly 5:30pm. During these bullfights three men face three bulls in a ritual killing that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The tickets are usually sold for two sections; the “Sombra” (shady) and the “Sol” (sunny) sides. As expected, the prices run higher on the Sombra side. You can purchase tickets from most large hotels and travel agencies, and they run from about 50 to 300 pesos.
If you’re looking to Acapulco for a natural, relaxing view, visit the many beaches along the Acapulco Bay . You can simply walk for miles barefoot, as there is sand that stretches along the bay. You can also visit the Caleta and Caletilla Beaches that are located on the ocean side of the peninsula.
